Supreme Showmanship JCJF
Shawna Shamblin 304-532-3728
Wednesday 6:30pm
The Supreme Showmanship has been established to showcase the Grand Champion Showman of each livestock species.
The five participants will be the Grand Champions from Beef, Lamb, Hog, Goat and Rabbit senior showmanship. If one individual cannot compete or wins more than one species, the reserve champion will fill this opening. If the position cannot be filled it will be left open. In the case of two species winners, they will choose which species they want to represent. If the species representative has already won supreme showmanship before then the reserve champion will take their place. Once awarded the supreme showman you will not be allowed to participate in future years however if you are not awarded the Supreme showman title, there is not a maximum number of times you can participate in the Supreme Showmanship contest.
Each class species will run according to the species rules
The barn chairman’s will be responsible for Selecting five (5) animals to be used during the showmanship classes. Please select 5 animals that are alike in demeanor and kind for that species. They will also be required to provide the necessary items that the participants will need for their showmanship class (i.e, halters, show sticks, combs, whips, etc.) All animals are to be cleaned up, brushed and combed. Please have the animals ring side as we go through the show order.
The contestants will draw 1-5 at the beginning of the contest. This number will determine their number in the contest. We will rotate through numbers 1-5 as we move through the show and this will give them each the opportunity to have the number one spot in choosing their animals, as well as their lineup in the show arena. If the contestant has an animal in the contest, we ask that they do not choose their own animal. They will draw the animals by tag numbers for which animal they will be showing. For the beef species only heifers or feeder steers will be shown. It is the contestants responsibilities to practice with the species that they will be showing in the contest. Please use the following resources: 4-h/FFA members and families, barn chairmen’s, past supreme showman winners and the director of the Supreme
Showmanship Contest.
Each class will be judged by a ranking system. They will be ranked 1-5 (1 being the
winner of the class and 5 being last) The supreme showmanship winner will be selected
by adding placing gained from all five (5) classes for each participant. The one with the
lowest total is the winner. If there is a scenario where there is a tie, we will refer to the
amount of first placings the participant received. The participant with the most first
placings, will be awarded the supreme showman.
The order of the show will be as follows:
1. Rabbit
2. Lamb
3. Goat
4. Beef
5. Hogs
There will be a break in between each class for participants to get a drink.
